Product Overview

The LRS-200N2-36 is the 36V output model in MEAN WELL's LRS-200N2 series of 200W single-output enclosed industrial power supplies. Delivering 5.9A at 36V DC with 212.4W rated power, this model serves specialized industrial applications requiring a higher DC voltage rail—telecom equipment, audio amplifiers, and certain types of motor drives that operate on 36V.

The LRS-200N2 series uses a switch-selected 115/230VAC input design (90~132VAC or 180~264VAC via front-panel switch). It also accepts 240~370VDC input when the switch is set to 230VAC position.

The 200% peak power capability delivers up to 424.8W for up to 5 seconds (duty ≤ 35%), handling inrush currents from 36V motor startups and capacitive charging without triggering protection. The 200mVp-p ripple is slightly higher than the 12V/24V models but well within acceptable range for industrial loads.

The 36V output is used in telecom DC power systems, professional audio amplifiers, AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) charging, electroplating equipment, and specialized DC motor drives. The 215×115×30mm fanless housing operates from -25°C to +70°C.

For 100W 36V applications, the LRS-100N2-36 (100.8W/36V/2.8A) offers the same 36V output at half the power. For other voltages in the 200W series, see the LRS-200N2-12 (12V/17A), LRS-200N2-24 (24V/8.8A), or LRS-200N2-48 (48V/4.4A).

Frequently Asked Questions

What applications use 36V DC power supplies?

36V is commonly used in telecom DC power distribution, professional audio amplifier systems, AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) battery charging, electroplating and anodizing equipment, and certain DC motor drive systems. While less common than 24V, 36V is the preferred voltage for specific specialized industries.

Why does the 36V model have higher ripple (200mV) than the 24V model (150mV)?

Higher output voltage generally produces proportionally higher ripple. The 200mVp-p ripple on the 36V model is still less than 0.6% of output voltage—well within acceptable range for industrial loads. For ultra-clean power requirements, consider adding external filtering. The LRS-200N2-24 offers lower 150mV ripple if your application is sensitive.

Can I use the LRS-200N2-36 for telecom applications?

The 36V output is compatible with some telecom DC power systems. However, standard telecom central office power is typically -48V. For -48V telecom applications, the LRS-200N2-48 (48V/4.4A) is more appropriate. Always verify compatibility with your specific telecom equipment requirements.

What's the difference between LRS-200N2-36 and LRS-100N2-36?

The LRS-200N2-36 delivers 212.4W/5.9A (double the 100.8W/2.8A of LRS-100N2-36). The 200N2 uses switch-selected input, is physically larger, and has higher inrush current. Choose 200N2 for high-current 36V loads; choose 100N2 for compact installations with universal AC input.
