The MEAN WELL GST120A series is a high-reliability 120W AC-DC desktop single-output green adapter built into a fully enclosed plastic housing. It connects to mains through a 3-pole IEC320-C14 inlet and is a Class I power supply with protective earth. Input range is 85~264VAC or 120~370VDC, and the series covers five output voltages from 12V to 48VDC, serving consumer electronic devices, telecom equipment, office equipment and industrial equipment.
The input stage uses active power factor correction: power factor is above 0.93 at 230VAC and above 0.97 at 115VAC at full load, and maximum leakage current is only 0.75mA at 240VAC despite the higher output power. Withstand voltage is 3KVAC input-to-output with insulation resistance of 100M Ohms minimum at 500VDC. The 94V-0 flame-retardant enclosure is fully sealed, so no live part is exposed in normal operation. This is an ITE product: for patient-contact medical equipment choose a 60601-1 certified adapter from the GSM series instead.
Efficiency reaches 91% on the 48V model and no-load power consumption stays below 0.15W across the series, meeting Efficiency Level VI and complying with USA EISA 2007/DoE, Canada NRCan, Korea K-MEPS, AU/NZ MEPS, EU ErP and CoC Version 5. Note that the datasheet publishes two efficiency figures per voltage, one for the R7B power-DIN plug and one for the P1M tuning-fork plug; the P1M version is 1 to 1.5 points lower, and the 12V and 15V models are R7B only. Safety approvals cover UL62368-1, CSA C22.2 No.62368-1, TUV BS EN/EN62368-1, BSMI CNS15598-1, CCC GB4943.1, PSE J62368-1, AS/NZS 62368.1, BIS IS13252, KC K60950-1 and EAC TP TC 004, with emissions held to Class B limits.
Two DC output plugs are offered as standard: the R7B 4-pin power DIN with lock on all five models, and the P1M 5.5 x 2.5 x 11mm tuning-fork plug on the 20V, 24V and 48V models. Tuning fork, barrel, lock, center pin, DIN, XLR, MOLEX and AMP styles can be fitted at the factory, and a quick-change plug adapter is available for the P1J and P1JR tuning-fork plugs - rated 15~48V / 7.5A maximum, which is why the 12V 8.5A model cannot use one. In the standard version the negative output is not connected to AC FG. Protections cover short circuit, overload (105%~160% of rated power, hiccup mode with auto-recovery), over voltage (105%~135% of rated output voltage, shutdown and restart to recover) and over temperature (shutdown, restart after cooling). The 167 x 67 x 35mm adapter weighs 575g, operates from -30C to +70C and is backed by a 3-year warranty.

The datasheet publishes a separate efficiency figure for each standard plug. R7B is available on all five voltages; the P1M tuning-fork plug is offered on 20V, 24V and 48V only, and is 1 to 1.5 points less efficient at the same voltage. Models listed above are the R7B versions - the P1M equivalents are GST120A20-P1M, GST120A24-P1M and GST120A48-P1M.

Overload and over-voltage protection are specified once for the whole series rather than per model: overload trips at 105%~160% of rated output power in hiccup mode with automatic recovery, and over-voltage trips at 105%~135% of rated output voltage, shutting the output down until the unit is restarted. Note: quick-change adapter availability is listed per plug family as published in the MEAN WELL datasheet. On the GST120A only the P1J and P1JR tuning-fork plugs accept a quick-change adapter, and only from 15V to 48V at 7.5A maximum - the 12V model delivers 8.5A and therefore runs on its factory-fitted plug only. Every other style is factory-fit and requires a minimum order quantity. Wire colors on stripped-lead versions are for reference only. In the standard version the negative output (-V) is not connected to AC FG - tell us if your end device expects the output referenced to earth.

P1M is a 5.5 x 2.5 x 11mm tuning-fork plug, is offered on 20V / 24V / 48V only, and runs 1 to 1.5 points lower at 89% / 89.5% / 90.5%. If you are comparing quotations, compare the same plug version - the model code carries the plug suffix for exactly this reason.
No. The P1M tuning-fork plug is only offered from 20V upwards, so the 12V and 15V models exist as GST120A12-R7B and GST120A15-R7B only. If your end device needs a 5.5 x 2.5mm barrel or tuning-fork jack at 12V or 15V, a P1-series plug can still be fitted at the factory as a modified item with a minimum order quantity - the plug cannot be swapped in the field on those two models.

All five share the same 167 x 67 x 35mm housing and the same 85~264VAC / 120~370VDC input range. This series starts at 12V: there is no 5V, 7.5V, 9V, 18V or 28V model, so if you need a voltage below 12V choose GST40A or GST60A instead.
MEAN WELL can fit other plug styles such as barrel, lock, center pin, DIN, XLR, MOLEX and AMP connectors at the factory subject to a minimum order quantity. For small quantities there is a quick-change DC plug adapter, but only for the P1J and P1JR tuning-fork plugs, and only rated 15~48V at 7.5A maximum. The 12V model delivers 8.5A, above that limit, so it runs on its factory plug only.

No. GST120A is an ITE product certified to the 62368-1 safety standard. For equipment with patient contact, use a 60601-1 certified adapter from the MEAN WELL GSM medical series instead, which provides 2xMOPP isolation and touch current below 50uA. The adapter is in any case a component intended to be built into end equipment, so EMC and safety of the complete system must be confirmed with the finished device.
