Product Overview

The APC-12 series is MEAN WELL's 12.6W constant-current LED driver with OVP protection -- a significant upgrade over the APC-8 in a larger 77x40x29mm platform. Unlike the APC-8 which relies solely on short-circuit protection, the APC-12 adds over-voltage protection with diode clamping, making it suitable for LED installations where fault tolerance is critical.

The APC-12 accepts 90~264Vac with 0.2A/230V, 0.35A/115V and 70A inrush. Two fixed current options with +/-8% accuracy: 350mA (9~36V/12.6W) and 700mA (9~18V/12.6W). The 350mA variant covers a very wide 9~36V compliance range, supporting everything from 3-LED strips to 12-LED series arrays. Efficiency: 80% (700mA) and 82% (350mA). No-load output voltage is 48V (350mA) / 24V (700mA).

The APC-12 features full protection suite: OVP with diode clamping (39.6~46.8V for 350mA, 20.7~24.3V for 700mA) plus short-circuit protection. This is a key differentiator from the APC-8's SC-only design. The Class II plastic shell with IP42, Class 2 / LPS certifications, and fly leads (Brown/Blue input 20AWG, Red/Black output 18AWG, 150mm) are standard MEAN WELL LED driver features. Operating temperature is -30~+70C (wider than APC-8's -15C minimum).

What happens when LEDs fail open-circuit on APC-12?

Unlike APC-8 which has no OVP and lets output float to no-load voltage, the APC-12 activates OVP diode clamping: 39.6~46.8V for the 350mA model, 20.7~24.3V for the 700mA model. The output shuts down, protecting connected LEDs and downstream components. This is the primary reason to choose APC-12 over APC-8 -- fault tolerance in critical LED installations.

What does Class 2 and LPS mean for installation?
