The MDR-100 series is a platform-level upgrade from the MDR-40/60 family -- the first MDR model with Active PFC (PF>0.98), ZCS/ZVS soft-switching, and over-temperature protection. It moves to a 55mm chassis (from 40mm) and narrows the voltage lineup to 12V/24V/48V (dropping 5V). This is a higher-grade industrial platform designed for PFC compliance and thermal resilience rather than ultra-slim density.

The MDR-100 accepts universal 85~264Vac input with Active PFC achieving PF>0.98 at 115Vac and PF>0.95 at 230Vac -- essential for EN61000-3-2 harmonic compliance. AC current is 1.3A/115V, 0.8A/230V with 30A/60A inrush. Three voltages: 12V (7.5A/90W), 24V (4A/96W), and 48V (2A/96W). The 12V model delivers 90W while 24V/48V reach full 96W. Efficiency ranges from 83% (12V) to 87% (48V). The ZCS/ZVS (Zero Current/Voltage Switching) topology reduces switching losses and EMI -- a technology distinction from the hard-switching MDR-40/60.

New protection features: over-temperature protection (OTP) shuts down the output if internal temperature exceeds safe limits, with either auto-recovery or restart recovery. This is the first MDR with OTP, critical for sealed enclosure installations. The DC OK relay contact (NC, 30V/1A), CC overload 105~150%, and wide voltage adjust (12~15V, 24~30V, 48~56V) carry forward. Note: no HazLoc certification on MDR-100. Frequently Asked Questions

Why does MDR-100 need PFC when MDR-40/60 don't?

Active PFC (Power Factor Correction) is mandatory for EN61000-3-2 harmonic current compliance in equipment above 75W. At 96W, MDR-100 exceeds the 75W threshold where harmonics limits apply. MDR-40/60 (40-60W) are below this threshold. The PFC not only ensures compliance but also reduces reactive power, lowering upstream breaker and wiring requirements -- a significant benefit in panel design.

Why is start-up time 3000ms vs 500ms on MDR-40/60?

The PFC circuit requires bulk capacitor pre-charge before the main converter starts. This 3-second delay is normal for any PFC-equipped power supply and ensures the PFC boost converter is stable before the main output converter begins switching. If your application requires sub-second start-up, consider MDR-60 (no PFC, 500ms start).

Does MDR-100 have HazLoc certification?

No. MDR-100 does not carry Class I Div 2 Hazardous Locations certification. For hazardous area applications requiring a DIN rail supply, consider MDR-40 or MDR-60 which carry HazLoc T4. MDR-100 is designed for PFC compliance and thermal protection rather than hazardous area deployment.

How does OTP work on MDR-100?

When the internal temperature exceeds the OTP threshold, the output shuts down. The supply either auto-recovers when temperature drops below the safe threshold, or requires a power-cycle restart. The exact recovery method depends on the specific thermal fault condition. This is the only MDR model with dedicated over-temperature protection -- crucial for installations in sealed enclosures where ambient temperature can accumulate without active ventilation.
