The RSP-500 series is MEAN WELL's 500W 1U enclosed power supply with advanced system integration features. Built in a 230x127x40.5mm chassis, it delivers 500W through efficient DC fan cooling and includes remote ON/OFF control, remote sense compensation (up to 0.3V load wire drop), and an 18ms hold-up time - making it the most feature-rich RSP model for PLC and automation systems.

With 85~264VAC universal input (widest in RSP series), 70KHz PFC+PWM architecture, and PF>0.98, the RSP-500 achieves 90.5% peak efficiency at 48V. The overload protection uses constant current limiting (not hiccup mode like RSP-200/320) - maintaining output current under fault conditions for predictable system behavior.

Measuring 230x127x40.5mm, the RSP-500 is the first RSP model in a full 1U chassis (vs 30mm slim on smaller RSPs). The DC fan operates on a temperature-controlled schedule: always on for 3.3~5V models, and on/off at 50C/40C thresholds for 12~48V. Remote ON/OFF via RC+/RC- dry contact or TTL (0~0.8V=ON, 4~10V=OFF) and remote sense (+S/-S) for compensating up to 0.3V of load wiring voltage drop.

UL62368-1, TUV, CCC, BSMI, EAC, AS/NZS 62368.1, BIS IS13252 certified on all models. Class B EMC. 3-year warranty. How do I use the remote ON/OFF function?

Connect to CN100 pins 3 (RC-) and 4 (RC+). The power supply turns ON when the RC+/RC- circuit is shorted (0~0.8V) or left open. Apply 4~10V between RC+ and RC- to turn OFF. This can be controlled by a dry contact relay, PLC digital output, or open-collector transistor.

When should I use remote sense?

Remote sense compensates for voltage drop in output wiring. Connect +S (pin 2) to the load's positive terminal and -S (pin 1) to the load's negative terminal using a twisted pair. The power supply will automatically increase its output voltage to maintain the set voltage at the load, up to 0.3V compensation. Use when load wires are long (>1m) or carry high current.

Why is the fan always on for 3.3~5V models?

The low-voltage models (3.3V/4V/5V) operate at 90A with lower efficiency (81~84%), generating more heat per watt. The fan runs continuously to manage this thermal load. For 12~48V models, the higher efficiency (88~90.5%) allows temperature-controlled fan operation - fan on at 50C, off at 40C - reducing noise and extending fan life under light loads.

Is the RSP-500 suitable for battery charging?

The RSP-500 uses constant current limiting overload protection (not hiccup), which is preferred for battery charging applications. The 48V model with 41~56V adjustment range can cover 48V battery float and equalization charging, and the remote sense function ensures accurate terminal voltage. Note that the power supply does not include a dedicated battery charging profile - it provides a stable DC output suitable for float charging with external charge controllers if needed.
