Product Overview

The NDR-240 series is MEAN WELL's 240W high-power DIN rail power supply with Active PFC - the first NDR model to incorporate power factor correction. With PF>0.98 and 28ms hold-up time, it represents a significant upgrade in performance and global certifications including BIS (India), KC (Korea), and BSMI (Taiwan).

Designed for TS-35/7.5 and TS-35/15 DIN rail mounting, the NDR-240 delivers 240W from 90~264VAC universal input through a built-in Active PFC circuit. This enables full EN61000-3-2 harmonic compliance at a 240W power level where passive solutions would not suffice. Two output voltages are offered: 24V and 48V - both delivering full 240W continuously.

Measuring 63x125.2x113.5mm, the NDR-240 is wider than the NDR-120 (63mm vs 40mm) to accommodate the PFC stage and higher power components. The metal housing with 70KHz PFC+PWM switching enables fanless operation from -20C to +70C. Both models include a DC OK LED on the front panel for immediate output verification. 28ms hold-up at 230V (22ms at 115V) bridges nearly two complete AC cycles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the NDR-240 have Active PFC while NDR-75/120 don't?

At 240W, Active PFC becomes necessary for EN61000-3-2 harmonic compliance. Below 75W, the standard allows compliance without PFC. At 120W, the harmonic limits can be met through circuit design. At 240W, an active PFC circuit is the only practical way to meet the standard. This is why NDR-240 is the first in the family with PF>0.98.

Why is there no 12V model?

At 240W, a 12V model would require 20A output current - demanding larger components, thicker terminals, and potentially exceeding the practical limits of the 63mm slim form factor. For 12V DIN rail applications, consider the NDR-120-12 (10A/120W) or contact MEAN WELL for higher-power 12V solutions.

What certifications does the NDR-240 have that NDR-120 doesn't?

The NDR-240 adds: (1) BIS IS13252 (India) - required for products sold in India; (2) KC K60950-1 (Korea, 48V only) - Korean safety certification; (3) BSMI CNS14336-1 (Taiwan) - Taiwan ITE safety standard; (4) KC KSC 9832/9835 (Korea, 48V only) - Korean EMC standards. These make the NDR-240 the most globally certified NDR model.

How does the hold-up time compare within the NDR family?

The NDR family hold-up times at 230V are: NDR-75: 60ms (longest, due to lower power and simpler circuitry), NDR-240: 28ms (best balance of active PFC + good ride-through), NDR-120: 16ms (shortest, due to higher power density). The PFC circuit in the NDR-240 provides more bulk capacitance than a non-PFC design at the same power level.

Is the over-temperature protection auto-recovery?

Yes. Unlike the OVP which requires a manual restart, the NDR-240's over-temperature protection automatically recovers once the internal temperature drops below the safe threshold. This is an important field service advantage - a temporary thermal condition (blocked airflow, high ambient) does not require a technician to reset the unit.
