The NDR-480 series is MEAN WELL's highest-power NDR DIN rail power supply at 480W. It achieves an extraordinary 92.5% efficiency across both output voltages through an advanced dual-stage architecture with separate 85KHz PFC and 65KHz PWM circuits. This enables fanless operation at a power level where many competitors require forced air cooling.
Designed for TS-35/7.5 and TS-35/15 DIN rail mounting, the NDR-480 delivers 480W from 90~264VAC universal input. Two outputs are offered: 24V at 20A and 48V at 10A. The overload protection uses a unique 3-second CC mode with auto-shutdown — providing momentary overload tolerance while protecting against sustained faults. BS EN/EN60204-1 machine safety compliance is standard.
Measuring 85.5x125.2x128.5mm, the NDR-480 is the widest and deepest NDR model. The dual-stage 85KHz PFC + 65KHz PWM architecture includes under-voltage protection (UVP) not found on other NDR models. Both models feature DC OK LED. BIS certification applies to the 24V model — 48V is excluded.

The NDR-480 doubles power to 480W vs 240W. Key differences: (1) 92.5% efficiency (vs 90% on NDR-240-48, 88.5% on NDR-240-24); (2) Dual-stage architecture (85KHz PFC + 65KHz PWM vs single 70KHz); (3) 3-second CC overload then shutdown (vs continuous CC on NDR-240); (4) UVP (under-voltage protection) added; (5) 85.5mm width (vs 63mm); (6) BIS only on 24V (vs both on NDR-240); (7) <2mA leakage (vs <1mA); (8) 1.5kg (vs 1kg); (9) no KC certification.
At 480W, sustained overload (105~130%) generates significant heat. The 3-second CC window provides enough time for motor starts, solenoid pull-in, and capacitive inrush currents to stabilize. After 3 seconds, the unit safely shuts down to prevent thermal damage. This is a deliberate design trade-off: momentary overload tolerance with safe fault protection at high power.
The NDR-480-48 is not covered under BIS IS13252 certification. For shipments to India requiring a 48V DIN rail solution, contact MEAN WELL sales for alternatives. The 24V model is fully BIS certified.
At 92.5% efficiency, only 7.5% of input power — approximately 39W — is dissipated as heat. The metal housing and optimized airflow design dissipate this passively. This is achievable through the dual-stage architecture where the 85KHz PFC and 65KHz PWM stages are independently optimized for their respective functions.
Unlike other NDR models where hold-up varies between 230V and 115V, the NDR-480 provides 16ms uniformly at both input voltages. This is achieved through the dual-stage PFC+PWM design with bulk capacitance optimized for wide-range operation. It means consistent brownout ride-through regardless of your mains voltage.
