The XDR-960 series is the absolute pinnacle of MEAN WELL DIN rail power — delivering nearly one kilowatt from a single 96mm slim unit. With 96% peak efficiency, parallel operation up to 3,840W, and an optional GL wall-mount bracket kit for DNV-certified and high-vibration installations, it represents the ultimate solution for the most demanding industrial power applications.

In a 96x125.2x132mm chassis with 6 output terminals (3x +Vo, 3x -Vo) for high-current distribution, the XDR-960 delivers 960W from 85~305Vac through a 70KHz PFC + 65KHz PWM + MCU architecture. Three voltages are offered: 24V, 36V, and 48V — no 12V at this power level. The 200% peak delivers 1,920W for 5 seconds with 600% transient for 15ms. 20ms hold-up returns — a significant improvement over XDR-480's 15ms.

The GL type is a unique option: a steel bracket kit replaces the DIN rail clip, enabling direct wall or panel mounting with M4 screws. This is required for DNV marine certification and recommended for high-vibration environments. The standard type (blank/LA/PI) uses conventional TS-35 DIN rail mounting. Full MODBus RS-485, DC OK relay, diagnostic LED, ORing FET, and remote ON/OFF are standard across all types.

Why is there no 12V XDR-960?

At 960W, a 12V output would require 80A continuous current — far beyond practical connector, PCB trace, and terminal limits in a DIN rail form factor. Even the XDR-480-12 is derated to 360W at 30A. For high-power 12V applications, parallel multiple XDR-240-12 units (240W each) or step down from 24V with DC-DC converters.

What is the GL type and when should I use it?

The GL type (XDR-960-xxGL) replaces the standard DIN rail clip with a steel bracket kit that enables direct wall or panel mounting via 4x M4 screws. It is required for DNV marine certification and recommended for high-vibration environments where DIN rail mounting may not be sufficient. The kit includes 2 steel brackets, 4x M3 screws (bracket-to-chassis), and 4x M4 screws (bracket-to-panel). Installation removes the DIN rail clip and 4 case screws, then attaches the brackets.

How does the XDR-960 compare to XDR-480?

The XDR-960 doubles power to 960W in a 96mm chassis. Yes. Four XDR-960-24 units in parallel: 40A x 4 x 0.9 x 24V = 3,456W usable sustained. At 48V: 20A x 4 x 0.9 x 48V = 3,456W. The 3,840W figure refers to peak capacity with 3+1 redundancy. For sustained parallel operation, the 0.9 derating factor applies and minimum load must exceed 5% of total rated current. Use short, thick parallel wiring and ensure output voltage matching within <0.2V.

Why is the hold-up time better than XDR-480?

The XDR-960 achieves 20ms hold-up at all voltages (vs XDR-480's 15ms) despite double the power. This is possible because the larger chassis (96mm vs 48mm) accommodates proportionally larger bulk capacitors in the PFC stage. The 70KHz PFC frequency (vs 80KHz on XDR-480) also contributes to slightly higher stored energy. This makes the XDR-960 better suited for brownout-prone environments at the highest power level.
