The HDR-15 series is an ultra-compact 15W DIN rail power supply in a 17.5mm (1SU) plastic housing — the narrowest DIN rail supply in the MEAN WELL lineup. With Class II double insulation (no FG/earth required), <0.3W no-load consumption, and LPS (Limited Power Source) certification, it is purpose-built for building automation, home control systems, and space-constrained industrial panels.

The HDR-15 accepts 85~264Vac universal input (277Vac also usable) with only 0.5A/115V, 0.25A/230V AC current. Five output voltages - 5V, 12V, 15V, 24V, and 48V — cover a wide range of applications from TTL logic to PoE edge devices and building sensors. Efficiency ranges from 80% to 87% with an exceptional 30ms hold-up at 230Vac and 12ms at 115Vac — remarkable for such a compact supply.

The plastic housing with Class II isolation eliminates the need for protective earth, simplifying wiring and reducing installation cost. 4KVac I/P-O/P reinforced isolation provides robust safety even in the compact design. The LPS certification means the output is limited to safe levels per IEC 62368-1, allowing installation without additional fusing in many applications. OVP uses zener diode clamping for fast, reliable overvoltage protection.

Certifications include UL62368-1, UL508, TUV BS EN/EN61558-2-16, EAC, BSMI, BIS (except 48V). The OVC III rating per EN61558 and EN62477-1 supports up to 2,000m altitude. At just 74g and 160 units per carton, the HDR-15 is the lightest, most compact DIN rail supply in the MEAN WELL portfolio.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Class II and "no earth required" mean?

The HDR-15 uses a double-insulated plastic housing with no exposed metal parts. The 4-pin terminal has only +V, -V, AC/N, and AC/L — no FG (earth) connection. This means you don't need to run a protective earth wire to each unit, simplifying wiring in building automation panels and reducing installation cost. The 4KVac I/P-O/P isolation ensures safety equivalent to earthed designs.

What voltages are available and which is best for my application?

Five voltages: 5V (2.4A/12W) for TTL/logic circuits; 12V (1.25A/15W) for general industrial; 15V (1A/15W) for sensors and battery floating charge; 24V (0.63A/15.2W) for building automation, PLCs, and sensors; 48V (0.32A/15.4W) for PoE edge devices. Note: 5V is derated to 12W, and 48V is not BIS certified for India.

Is the HDR-15 suitable for outdoor use?

The HDR-15 operates from -30C to +70C with plastic housing, but it has no IP rating. For outdoor installations, it must be installed inside a weatherproof enclosure. The plastic body provides some inherent corrosion resistance, but the terminal area requires protection from moisture and dust.
